Topsfield Board of Health backs 2026 mosquito control plan with environmental scrutiny. In a unanimous 3-0 vote, the Board approved the Integrated Pest and Vector Management Plan and forwarded it to the Select Board for adoption, authorizing Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control's seasonal operations from May through September. Health Director Jon Bouley said any adulticide decisions would be risk-based, and pledged to consult the School District Integrated Pest Management Coordinator and Topsfield Fair management before proceeding with barrier applications.
Carole McCauley, Director of the Massachusetts Audubon Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, asked the Board to take a conservative approach, noting a coalition effort with Representative Kristin Kassner to promote legislation restricting pesticide use.
