TOPSFIELD — Board of Health approved the FY26 annual report and compensation for fair inspection services while discussing a significant gap in public health nursing funding. Board Chair Sheryl Knutsen explained that the Select Board and Finance Committee eliminated a $10,000 annual budget line for a public health nurse and cut the vaccine budget from $10,000 to $5,000. The Public Health Excellence grant, which currently funds a nurse position, expires in June 2027.
If not renewed, no Board of Health funds will remain to support a public health nurse position despite the town being mandated to conduct communicable disease monitoring. The board also noted the Opioid Settlement Funds Coordinator position remains vacant following Julia Lobel RN's resignation, with no committee meetings scheduled since July.
